Blast

How do I connect to the Blast?


After you have switched the Blast on, listen for the buzzer 'beep beep' indicating it is ready to connect. You should now see 'faceboard' as a WIFI option on your device. You might be prompted to enter the password 'faceboard'.

  • After connecting, most devices will automatically open the default internet browser and load the Join Game page. Facilitators should select login button top right to sign into their account.
  • Open an internet browser if it does not open automatically. Enter any HTTP address in the URL and it should redirect to http://offline.faceboard.co.za. Note that a HTTPS address will not work, therefore do not choose a site from your search history.
  • If FaceBoard still does not load, enter 192.168.0.1:3000 in the URL **Make sure that your device is still connected to 'faceboard' WIFI and has not switched to a different network.




How does a player connect to the Blast and join a game?


1. On a device the player should connect to the "faceboard" wifi with password "faceboard" The player can turn off their mobile data as it is not needed. 2. This will lead them to the player join game page on their browser - Chrome is best! 3. The facilitator will have the Game ID & Game Pin that the player needs to ins ert into spaces and select join. 4. Once joined the player can view the cards on their own device.




How do I charge my Blast?


  1. Open the Blast. Stack the two halves and rest on the table.
  2. Make sure that the Blast is switched OFF
  3. Insert the Micro USB cable from a power outlet into the port.
  4. Note the LED's indicating the current charge status. When all 4 LED's are red and no longer flashing, then the Blast is Fully charged. A full charge can take several hours
  • If there are no LED's when you insert the charging cable, it could be that the batteries are completely flat. Leave the cable in for a few minutes to see if it starts charging




How do I update my Blast?


  1. Open the Blast and stack the halves. Switch it on, connect and sign in to your facilitator account
  2. Insert the USB-to-ethernet adapter dongle into the Blast
  3. From any page on the app click on the Hamburger dropdown menu and select 'Update' - A popup will load giving details of your update options.**
  4. Choose between a 'code' or 'database' update. Do not run them both together For a database update, you need to search and select the specific faceboards that you would like to include in the update. Note that your Private Library and Public Library faceboards are bundled together.
  5. Click update button
  6. A popup will load detailing the update progress. A notification box will indicate when the update is complete. Select OK.
  7. Wait 60 seconds for the updates to be installed. Refresh the browser page and check that the updates were successful.
**If the update popup is stuck on 'Loading', it means that it is unable to establish an internet connection.




What are the buttons for?


Once a game has been set up, The Playing Cycle can now be directly controlled by the players using the 3 buttons. The 'Roll' button will trigger a digital die to roll on all devices. The 'Timer' button will start the countdown preparation timer. The 'Answer' button will reveal the suggested response for that question/task.




What is the difference between a 'code' and 'database' update


  • Code: Updates the Blast to the latest version of the app and fixes known bugs. Should be done regularly.
  • Database: Updates the library of faceboards on the Blast, including videos and images




How do I open my Blast?


Turn the Blast upside down so that the buttons are facing downward. Grip each half firmly and pull them apart. Stack the button half inside the empty half




How do I check my battery charge status?


Press the little black button. The LED lights will indicate the battery charge level.




How do I turn my Blast on?


Flick the slider switch towards the ON position. The battery charge LED's will come on. There will also be a solid red LED and flashing green LED. After +-60 seconds you should hear the buzzer 'beep beep' indicating that the Blast has booted up and is ready to connect.




How do I switch the Blast off?


  1. Open the Blast (Button side facing down)
  2. Flick the slider switch towards the "OFF" position





Brain

How do I switch the FaceBoard Brain on?


  • Connect a micro USB cable from a power outlet into the Micro USB power port on the Brain.
    • A powerbank that can supply more than 2amps is sufficent
    • It might work when using a laptop USB port but the Brain might not perform optimally because of insufficient power.
    • A mobile phone charger is a good option
  • Note the red LED and flashing Green LED.
  • Wait 60 seconds for the Brain to boot up before attempting to connect
